Keep your eyes open for lots of surprises at Saturday's Rotorua Christmas Parade.

The parade is promising to be better than ever with about 30 floats entered and organiser Alexis LewGor reckons there is something for everyone.

The festive extravaganza starts at Rangiuru St at 12pm. It winds its way through the CBD and finishes at the Village Green where there will be entertainment, food and drink and the prize-giving.

Among the float entries this year are Te Puia, taking part for the first time. Ms LewGor says they will have a surprise for spectators.

"You will know it's them when you see them," she said. "Previous parades have been good but this year we'll have a real mix. We have a motorbike club, the police and fire service are taking part, rugby clubs, trolley derby, Rerewhakaaitu rodeo, the Philippines and Cook Island communities."

She said she was looking forward to seeing an early childhood education centre float, which was running with the Frozen theme.

"We've asked entrants about their vehicles and we have more families and children involved," she said. "There are lots of trucks and the police are getting into the Christmas spirit. We don't know what Santa's float will look like until the day - it's a big surprise to us too."

She said there were lots of vantage points along the route and she wanted families to spread out along the route and then enjoy the free entertainment at the Village Green. Last year, about 9000 people watched the parade.
