Rotorua author talk and book launch to help keep stories alive

The impacts of World War I continued long after the declaration of Armistice Day, and the community can be part of keeping these stories alive by attending a book launch.

Rotorua author Lyndsay Campbell will be telling the story behind her new novel The Aro Street Girls at the Rotorua Library next Friday.

Joanne Dillon, Rotorua Library marketing, communications and events lead, says the library is delighted to host Lyndsay for the book launch.

Lyndsay's latest novel The Aro St Girls is set in Wellington following World War I and is based on the true story of her great aunt who died during the flu epidemic.

While peace may have been declared on November 11, Armistice Day, the impacts of World War I continued long after.

Joanne says novels like The Aro St Girls keep the stories of war alive, particularly the New Zealand stories.

"With it being 100 years since the armistice was signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany, it's important we ensure that the stories of the war continue to be told.

"In sharing these stories we can acknowledge those who lost their lives or returned home forever changed, as well as the impact on their loved ones and the country as a whole."

Joanne says at a book launch you get an insight, not only into the content of the book, but also into the process of researching and writing it.

"At this event the author will share stories told to her by her grandmother and from her own life."

She says Lyndsay will also walk the audience through the fascinating journey she took to research, write and publish this book, both in print and eBook formats.

"Reading a book after you have attended a book launch and met the author adds an extra level to the reading experience.

"We invite you to come along to meet Lyndsay and hear her story."

All are welcome, though people need to RSVP for catering purposes.
