He has been a company director in many large companies in Australia and New Zealand over the past 25 years.
He has lived in Rotorua for the past 15 years, with involvement in conservation as chairman of the Lakes Water Quality Society, overseeing a $235 million lakes restoration programme.
He has also been significantly involved in the Bay of Plenty regional economic development programmes, as chair of Grow Rotorua and as a director of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council-owned Quayside Holdings Group, which has a majority holding in the Port of Tauranga.
In 2014 he received a Queen's Service Medal for services to conservation.
"It's always nice to be recognised by your colleagues," said Mr Green.
"Certainly the impact of doing the work on the Rotorua Lakes was a significant aspect of whether you had made a contribution to the community. We implemented some very strong science-based projects at the Lakes. I was very pleased to be part of it."
