But they do have them at home at Emery Park where visiting teams often leave with just the memorable view across the lake for their troubles.
Rotoiti coach Dave McLean insists his side can beat anyone on their day but he said players must improve ball retention and cut down on "silly errors".
"Of course it will be very tough playing against the Mount, they've been in excellent form all season," he said.
"They have a very physical pack and their forwards can cause a lot of damage.
"But we are going into the game with confidence. Our target is to make that top four.
"On the day, whoever makes less mistakes will win the match, it's as simple as that."
Rotoiti will be looking to bounce back from last weekend's 33-20 loss to Te Puke.
Mount Maunganui remain unbeaten in the competition but only narrowly beat Greerton Marist 34-32 in their last fixture.
McLean said despite the loss there would be no problem getting his team motivated for their crucial clash.
"Everyone will raise their performance and raise the bar. Everyone is very excited about playing," he said.
"You don't get a bigger game than this for the community and we want to represent Rotorua well, being the only local side in the top division.
"We must strive to play the best we can and leave everything out on the field. We have to play as a unit and give it our all."
Rotoiti captain Zac Hohneck added: "We love playing the Mount and we are a good enough team to beat anyone when we play to our strengths."
Rotoiti will be without vice captain and influential forward Joe Royal but will be boosted by the call up of his cousin Willie Royal to fill in at hooker and the return of prop Cory Masters from a calf injury.
"It's disappointing that Joe hasn't been able to finish the season with us as he has played such a big part and always gives his all," said McLean.
"But it's great Willie can come in and the Royal family will still be represented well.
"Also Cory will strengthen the side and we are looking good in all areas.
"This should be a memorable occasion for the whole of the community and I want to see players battling for every challenge and every ball."
Meanwhile defending champions Tauranga Sports have lost their last two games and travel to Whakatane Marist in desperate need of points and a confidence boost.
And at Murray Salt Stadium Te Puke host Te Puna in what should be a ding-dong battle for a semifinals berth.
