Residents in the Rotorua suburbs of Otonga and Springfield generously donated to The Daily Post Christmas appeal last night.
About 20 volunteers from The Daily Post, Salvation Army and Rotorua Fire Service collected donations of food from residents, despite it being brought to an early finish due to heavy rain.
Rotorua
Salvation Army community ministries manager Rob Gardiner said it was a very successful night and he was encouraged to see the number of people who came out with food. "We had people chasing us down the street to give us food.
"I was impressed with the way the community has come out to support us."
Volunteers are yet to finish counting the number of food items donated which will go towards boosting the local Salvation Army food bank supplies.
DONATIONS SINCE MONDAY:
252 food items: anonymously dropped off at The Daily Post
62 food items: From Lake City Breakfast Toastmasters Club
170 food items and $250: From the Living Well Church
