There are reports of a logging truck on fire near Rotorua this morning.

A police media spokesman said the incident happened at the intersection of State Highway 5 and Waipa State Mill Rd.

Police received a call about the truck at 10.15.

The spokesman said it was not known if any other vehicles were involved.

A reporter at the scene said one fire truck was in attendence.

The driver, Arama Singh, was headed to Taupō and noticed a loud band.

He initially thought it was tyre until he turned and saw the billowing smoke.

Another truck traveling behind him had stopped and said their were flames coming out the stack but disappeared when the truck turned off.

A mechanic driving past stopped to help but did not know yet what had caused it.
