Top Rotorua rally driver Sloan Cox is gearing up for another big season behind the wheel which will see him accompanied by a new co-driver for the 2016 New Zealand Rally Championship.

Cox, 24, will be joined by co-driver Malcolm Read (Hamilton) for the up-coming season.

Cox - who will be racing the Taslo Engineering Mitsubishi Evo X this year - has never won a New Zealand Rally Championship event, but has finished on the podium in the past.

Last month, he posted a promising result, winning the inaugural Teng Tools NZ International Rallycross event held inside Baypark Stadium in Tauranga.

The Cox Motorsport team are planning on competing in all six rounds of the New Zealand Rally Championship, starting with the Rally of Otago next weekend.

"I am really looking forward to working with Sloan for the 2016 New Zealand Rally Championship," Read said.

"I had the chance to sit alongside Sloan last September and his car control and driving ability really impressed me.

"The Cox Motorsport team have also been working really hard during the off season to ensure we have the best opportunity for the season ahead - we're ready to put our best foot forward and challenge for the championship," Read said.

Last year, Cox took a break from racing the full NZRC season but is looking forward to returning this season, to the country's premier rally championship.

Read will partner Cox at five of the six championship rounds, only missing the International Rally of Whangarei due to competing in the Asia Pacific Rally Championship.

For this round Cox has lined up local co-driver Sarah Coatsworth, with the pair working well together in the past.
