Rainy weather won't stop Crankworx action

The rain is going to hang around for a few more days - but the wet weather isn't stopping the action at Crankworx.

Event director Tak Mutu said it was "status quo" at Skyline Rotorua, with the festival set to run through to Sunday.

He admitted the rain can affect things such as the pump track, "but fingers crossed that won't happen".

"We're sticking to plan A."

With a free locals' day tomorrow people could expect entertainment and an awesome time, Mr Mutu said.

MetService meteorologist Andy Best said today would not be particularly windy, but isolated showers in the morning and heavy rain in the afternoon was predicted.

He said this was due to a low pressure area over the east of the North Island.

Tomorrow would bring showers in the morning with Thursday improving and showers clearing, Mr Best said.

"It looks to clear by the end of the week, with going forward from Thursday a vast improvement."

Despite a severe weather watch , and 55ml of rain recorded over 12 hours at Rotorua Airport, there were few wet weather incidents around the city yesterday.

A Rotorua Lakes Council spokeswoman said there had been no major problems, aside from a few surface flooding incidents which was normal following heavy rain.

It was business as usual at the Ngongotaha Hatchery Fish and Game, communications adviser Grant Dyson said.

"We were happily unaffected."

However, some people in the district had their power cut due to the rain.

Danny Gough, relationship manager at Unison, said due to the rough weather overnight Sunday there were pockets of customers particularly in rural areas who were impacted.

Mr Gough said 300 to 400 customers were affected, particularly those on Pukehangi and Sunset Rds, Lake Okataina and Waiotapu due to issues with trees and branches falling on to power lines.
