With heavy rain predicted for tomorrow's Ironman, police are urging motorists to take extra care in and around Taupo.

The Ironman NZ event takes place tomorrow. The town will be very busy and there are a number of road closures and restrictions that will be in place along with limited parking.

As well as a number of roads affected in town, there will be restrictions on Broadlands Rd (North of the Landfill to Reporoa) and Centennial Dr (Rakanui to Broadlands Rd).

"Heavy rain is also predicted so please take extra care. The bike leg of the race goes out to Reporoa so there will be large numbers of cyclists around and a need to be extra vigilant especially is the weather turns bad.

"If you are competing, we wish you the very best of luck. If you are in town cheer them on; swimming 3.8km, then cycling 180km before running a full marathon, is no easy feat. If you are not a competitor, spectator or volunteer you are advised to avoid driving through the area," Bay of Plenty Police said on their Facebook page.
