Rain is forecast for Rotorua for the next two days with a severe weather watch in place for Taupo and the Central North Island.

The MetService said a complex trough of low pressure will cross central New Zealand tomorrow bringing rain to most of the country with the heaviest falls likely about the central North Island high country.

Rotorua will be mostly cloudy with occasional rain today with more falls tomorrow. The temperature is expected to reach 22C.

The weather is forecast to improve by Wednesday for the rest of the week.
