Rain is forecast for the region tomorrow with a severe weather watch in place for Taupo.

MetService said Rotorua should expect rain from tonight into tomorrow morning easing to showers in the afternoon.

Rain is expected to develop Saturday morning in Taupo and become heavy for a time before easing Saturday evening.

Sunday is expected to be cloudy with a few showers.

A trough set to dampen outdoor activities for most tomorrow (particularly over the North Island) can be seen in the west in the image. ^AC pic.twitter.com/a6QKeJpYbT
