The sale of New Zealand's only privately owned Maori meeting house is up in the air after a sale by tender could not be finalised.

Te Tiki a Tamamutu wharenui at the Spa Hotel, Taupo was put out to tender in October by Webb's auction house in Auckland.

A tender
price of between $8 and $12 million was accepted but the tender fell through.

Webb's was in discussions with other interested parties.
