The newspaper and individual staff taking out national and international awards had also been a highlight, he said.
"At the end of the day it's a fantastic team and I don't say that lightly."
Mr Sherry said one of his main objectives had been for the Rotorua Daily Post to get more involved in the community. "We really took a front foot approach to enhance the paper's reputation and profitability."
The goal of building a stronger advertising base had also been achieved, he said.
"[Advertising manager] Janine Davy has done a wonderful job, she's well known to most advertisers in town, she will continue to be a great asset to the company."
Mr Sherry said he believed the newspaper would only go from strength to strength.
"The place is in great shape, that's going to continue."
New general manager David Mackenzie will take up his role in the new year.
"I am delighted to be joining the Rotorua Daily Post and working with a talented team of staff," Mr Mackenzie said.
