Could Maori Television's headquarters be moving to Rotorua?

Could Maori Television's headquarters be moving to Rotorua?

Maori Television headquarters may be moved from Auckland to Rotorua according to a Labour MP.

List MP Kelvin Davis told media this morning the station's entire operation was to be relocated to Rotorua. They are currently based in the central city suburb of Auckland.

This follows on from claims from Mana Movement party leader Hone Harawira who said Maori Television is dumping its key news programme Te Kaea with up to 25 jobs being axed.

Today Maori Television issued a statement saying a review of its operations has been conducted and the results will be announced to staff this week.

"The review, which has included consultation with staff, will not result in the alleged outcomes as postulated by Mana leader Hone Harawira," the Maori Television statement said.

Maori Television chief executive Paora Maxwell said this was an organisational matter, and the story published in today's New Zealand Herald was based on incorrect information and conjecture, and should be discounted.
