Taupo area police are seeking the public's help in identifying a group of young teenagers following an assault on a young woman.

The assault happened on Monday, July 13 between 5pm and 6pm.

A police spokesman said a young woman first encountered the group on Kensington St, Putaruru where they began to yell out to her.

Fearing for her safety she changed the direction she was walking before again encountering the same group on Terrace St where the group surrounded her and began to assault her.

The woman managed to break away and run to safety.

Anyone who has information regarding the attack or the identity of the offender(s) is urged to contact Detective Constable John Goddard on (07) 855 0151.
