A Rotorua police officer who was attacked while making an arrest remains in a stable condition in Waikato Hospital.

The police officer suffered head injuries after being attacked on Thursday night on Te Ngae Rd in Owhata.

A Waikato Hospital spokeswoman said this morning the officer was still in a ward in a stable condition.

A 24-year-old Rotorua man has been charged with attempted murder and will remain behind bars until at least the start of next month.

The man, who has interim name suppression, appeared in the Rotorua District Court on Saturday where he was remanded in custody to reappear on August 8.
