Police Notebook: Spate of bike thefts in city

The following incidents were reported to Rotorua police during the past few days:

Bike thefts

Over the space of a week eight bikes have been stolen across Rotorua.

Between Friday and Sunday two bikes were taken from Isobel St in Fairy Springs.

They were a yellow and black Giant Glory mountain bike and an S&M speed wagon BMX.

In three separate incidents bikes were taken from Hinemoa St.

In the week to Friday, two bikes were taken from the same apartment.

They were a dark blue/purple 2015 Haro Calavera mountain bike with clip-on pedals and white writing and a red and white 2004 Race Line Enduro mountain bike.

Also last week a small, black and blue 2015 men's Giant mountain bike with hydraulic seat post and metal pedals was taken.

Sometime on Thursday or Fridaya 2015 Giant Trance 2 mountain bike was stolen from the Royal Courts Apartments on Hinemoa St.

The owner said the bike was black and blue and worth $2600 plus $500 of upgrades.

A Green Scott Confeta mountain bike with orange trim and combination cable bike lock was taken from a campsite near the Polynesian Spa over the weekend .

Last Thursday a bright Blue Merida mountain bike with green lettering went missing from outside Capers Cafe on Eruera St.

Area prevention manager Inspector Stuart Nightingale said some of the bikes were worth $3000-$5000.

He said police would be stopping anybody with bikes that matched the descriptions.

Unlawfully taken vehicle

Last weeka Silver 2001 Honda Stream was taken from Colonial Tavern Carpark on Owhata Rd.

Burglaries

There were 16 burglaries reported since Friday morning and through the weekend.

Nightingale said they were "widespread".

Locations included Fenton Park, Mangakakahi, Fairy Springs, Western Heights and Sunnybrook.
