He warned against the offence of "receiving stolen goods" by turning a blind eye as to whether an item may be stolen.
Stolen vehicles
Mr Nightingale said residents who own earlier model Toyota Hiluxes need to be aware there are people looking to steal them.
"Not many are being recovered and it is likely they are being used in forestry blocks in our region."
Police are also looking for a blue 1997 Nissan Primera Camino, registration AUN123, which was stolen from Wharepaina Cres in Springfield overnight on October 8.
The vehicle was stolen when the victim left it parked on the roadside when he was arrested. The victim no longer has the keys and his phone and wallet were in the vehicle when it was taken.
A good catch
Police made a good catch in relation to a person who committed three ram raids in Rotorua's CBD.
The person ram-raided dairies on Pukuatua St, Arawa St and Hinemoa St but a "sharp operator" on the CCTV system quickly identified the vehicle fitting the description of the one seen in regard to the two burglaries.
"Police responded with urgency, apprehending the vehicle following a short vehicle pursuit and the driver admitted to the offending and appeared at Rotorua court [yesterday]," Mr Nightingale said.
