Police Notebook: Burglaries and alcohol-related disorders keep Rotorua police busy

The following incidents were reported to Rotorua police during the past few days:

Rotorua police have been inundated with widespread burglaries and an increase in alcohol-related disorders.

Crime prevention manager Inspector Brendon Keenan said the 12 burglaries in the wider Rotorua area at the weekend was concerning.

Areas included Mallard Drive, Aquarius Drive, Gordon Rd, Hinemaru St, Clayton Rd, Wylie St, Salisbury Rd, Otonga Rd, Whittaker Rd, and Fenton St.

"A lot of the burglaries include property being entered and damaged but no notable property stolen.

"This could indicate that opportunists are breaking into properties that seem insecure in the hope of what they may find."

Keenan said it was vital neighbours were looking out for each other.

"Remember you may be the best capable guardian of your neighbour's property. If you see suspicious behaviour, notify Rotorua police."

Disorder

Keenan said there was an increase in disorder, particularly alcohol-related on Saturday night.

"Yes it is the season where we see an increase of festive celebrations but your safety and the safety of your colleagues and friends should be paramount.

"We want all to enjoy this time of the year, not become victims of disorderly behaviour."

Police are still looking for the following vehicles.

A brown Holden Vectra, registration NY20, taken from Whittaker Rd, Koutu on December 10.

A black Holden Commodore, registration DYH387, taken from the corner of Bellingham Cres and Waterlow St, Fordlands on December 10.

A red Holden Barina Spark, registration RANUI4, taken from Rotoiti Forest on December 10.

A black Great Wall V240 commercial vehicle, registration HHM328, taken from Kopuriki Rd, Murupara on December 8.

Anyone with information about any of the above incidents can call Rotorua police on (07) 349 9400 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
