Police name Julian Rameka as victim in Tokoroa crash

Police have named the person killed in a crash in Tokoroa in June.

He was Julian Rameka, 54, of Tokoroa.

Emergency services were called to the collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Lomond Ave just before midnight on June 27.

“Despite best efforts of emergency services, one person died at the scene,” police said at the time.

The family announced Rameka’s death on social media on June 28 and via a post on the South Waikato Funeral Services page on June 27.

“It’s with a heavy heart Te Whanau Rameka announce the passing of Julian Jack Haora Rameka (Julz).”

He was an “adored” uncle and koro and “treasured nephew, brother-in-law, cousin and friend to many”, the post said.

He left behind his partner Robin Nathan, his children Joseph, Thornton, Taelyn and mokos, as well as seven siblings.

Tributes on that post remember Rameka as a “big-hearted man” with a cheeky smile.

He was also a member of the Tokoroa Pool Club.

Police said inquiries into the crash were continuing.
