Drivers towing caravans and boats at significantly under the speed limit are causing headaches for motorists, prompting a police warning for those going slow to show courtesy to other drivers and pull over to let long lines of traffic past.
Senior Sergeant Dennis Murphy of the Rotorua police said generally,motorists had been well behaved in the Rotorua region, but one of the main concerns was those who were towing boats or caravans, or driving campervans, who impeded traffic for considerable periods of time "causing frustration for other drivers".
"They need to realise that they need to be courteous and show common sense. Some are travelling at speeds that are quite a bit, like 20-25km/h, below the speed limit."
Mr Murphy said while it was good those towing were being cautious of speeds, they just needed to be respectful of other drivers.
On the flip side, Mr Murphy said there had been some motor-cyclists out cruising enjoying the summer weather that had been clocked at relatively high speeds, including some stopped for travelling at 140km/h.
