Police investigating the killing of Mongrel Mob associate Hemi Hohepa have been given a tip-off that a weapon is in Rotorua's Puarenga Stream.
Four police divers from Auckland searched the stream near the Whakarewarewa Village yesterday. It is the second time the divers have helped police since Mr Hohepa's
death.
Divers searched part of the stream near Crown research institute Scion shortly after the discovery of the 27-year-old's body on October 20.
Mr Hohepa was found on private property that borders the Whakarewarewa Forest, between Scion and the Whakarewarewa Village.
Detective Senior Sergeant Kim Libby said Auckland divers had been brought back to Rotorua following a tip-off.
"Obviously we are acting on information that has since been received.
"We are looking for anything relevant to the inquiry."
Mr Libby confirmed police had searched for a knife, but had been unsuccessful.
Four people have been charged with Mr Hohepa's murder.
One of the four appeared in the Rotorua District Court yesterday for a bail hearing.
The hearing was adjourned and the 20-year-old was remanded in custody to reappear in court on December 17. He has interim name suppression.
