Police are seeking witnesses to a fatal crash on Sunday July 9 on State Highway 1 near Atiamuri, north of Taupo.

One person died in the two-car collision, which happened just before 5pm near the Gull Service Station.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the crash and is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police spoke to a number of people at the scene, however they know several cars stopped at the scene immediately after the crash. They would like to speak to anyone who was there who has not yet spoken to police.

Anyone who has any information is asked to contact Senior Constable Tony Ellis at the Taupo police on (07) 378 6060.
