A chuckle-filled night is in store for those who head along to Rotorua Little Theatre's upcoming show.

Rotorua Little Theatre, in association with The Play Bureau, presents Welcome to our Village, Please Invade Carefully! at Shambles Theatre from May 1 to May 11.

Evening shows are at 7pm from May 1 to 4 and May 8 to 11. There is a matinee performance at 2pm on May 5.

Director Richard Rugg says the show is about an alien invasion of the small English village of Cresdon Green, and how the villagers are dealing with this.

The story mainly follows the efforts of the Cresdon Greenian Resistance Movement, as they attempt to foil the aliens in their preparation for a full invasion of the rest of the Earth.

Welcome to our Village, Please Invade Carefully! is based on a radio show written by Eddie Robson, and Richard decided to give it an image, performing season one of the radio show on stage.

"It's funny and it's different. It's the kind of thing you expect to see on television not on stage, and that's what was appealing."

Richard said all up there are about 11 people in the cast, including six main actors and three supporting.

He said rehearsals were going well and that funny moments were coming out of it.

"It's very hard work turning something that has no image into something with an image.

"It is hard work but very fun, challenging and rewarding."

He encouraged people to come along to the show because it is funny and different, and because they probably have not seen show like this at Shambles Theatre before.
