The idea of hand-crafting more than 2000 flax flowers is a daunting and time consuming task, so Kylie Lang is putting the call out for people to give her a helping hand.

Ms Lang, the Rotorua Breast Cancer Trust Pink Walk co-ordinator, said when the fundraising walk began eight years ago, participants were given a flax flower when they completed the walk.

"It's a nice way of giving back to those who have taken part."

With the flax flower making a comeback, Ms Lang is holding a series of workshops to teach people how to weave the flowers. One will take place today between 10am and midday at Millennium Hotel, with four more taking place before the walk.

Ms Lang said the free workshops were aimed at getting people used to making the flowers, and if they wanted to they could continue making them at home.

"Once you get the hang of it you can probably blast out 10 in half an hour."

She said they hoped to make at least 2000, which is how many people took part in last year's Pink Walk.

The walk is the major fundraiser of the year for the Rotorua Breast Cancer Trust, which provides support and services for Rotorua people affected by breast cancer.

Ms Lang said the 3.5km walk would follow the same route as previous years on Wednesday, October 21.
