Police are at the scene of an incident on Roger St.

One person is arrested following a reported firearms incident at a Western Heights property earlier today.

The incident sparked nearby Western Heights Primary School to go into lockdown.

A police spokeswoman confirmed reports of an altercation in the area that happened at 10.37am. They were working to establish what had happened.

A Rotorua Daily Post reporter at the scene said cordons guarded by armed police on Roger St and Joanne Cres off Edmund Rd had now been removed.

Six people who were inside the house were talking to some remaining police officers outside the property.

A man at the Roger St cordon said he got a phone call from one of his family members inside a neighbouring house who described to him what had happened.

He said he was concerned so had come home to try and get back to his house.
