Pekatahi Bridge. Google Maps.

The Pekatahi Bridge on State Highway 2 in Eastern Bay of Plenty is to close for around five days as part of the re-decking project.

The permanent seal on the bridge deck is expected to be laid from tomorrow and will be finished by Monday evening. Work is also scheduled for Saturday March 3 to sweep and clear the site. This work is weather permitting.

The one-way bridge between Awakeri and Taneatua has had its deteriorating timber deck replaced. This sealing work is still part of the original project plan.

During the closure all road users will be required to use the alternative route, State Highway 30 through Whakatane via Landing Road bridge. This is expected to add an additional 20 minutes to a journey, with longer times during peak periods.

The Transport Agency would like to thank motorists and businesses for their continued patience while the work is under way, and reminds people passing through the Whakatane urban area to drive with extra care, especially around school children.

Access to Foster Rd and Nuku Rd will be from the Awakeri end of White Pine Bush Rd.
Uzabus will provide a school bus to and from Taneatua School for families tomorrow and Monday.

All current road closures are updated at http://www.journeys.nzta.govt.nz/traffic/ so people can check before they travel.
