Pedestrian dies after crash near Ōpōtiki

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in Waiotahe near Ōpōtiki.

A police spokesman said the crash happened on Waiotahe Beach Rd about 7.40am today.

A section of State Highway 2 was closed and detours were in place for several hours, the NZ Transport Agency said earlier via their Facebook page.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances which led to the fatality, the police spokesman said.
