The partner of a man shot dead in Kinloch last night has been found safe and uninjured.

Police had earlier said they had concerns for the 38-year-old woman's safety as she was unaccounted for following the death of the 48-year-old man at his Whangamata Rd property.

Taupo police said the woman had now been located at a nearby property. She was safe and uninjured.

Police will continue area searches and the scene examination tomorrow.

Police continue to ask for any information from members of the public who may have seen or heard anything in the area last night before 8pm.

No information on the dead man's identity can be released at this stage. A post mortem is due to take place tomorrow.

Bay of Plenty CIB Detective Senior Sergeant John Wilson said the man was found dead by a family member about 8.30pm, who then called emergency services.

Mr Wilson said police would also search the extensive rural property, which includes several hectares of bush.
