Lake Rerewhakaaitu School supporters are running at full throttle this weekend as they hope to welcome up to 300 motocross enthusiasts for a fundraising ride.
The trail ride is to help send 29 students to a camp in Wellington. They need to raise $6000, so parent Vanessa Franklyn decided one good
way to help do that was organise an event that would get a lot of people on board.
Another parent manages an Onuku Maori Land Trust farm, which has a pre-existing motocross trail and it was quickly decided that trail would provide fundraising opportunities.
Sign in is from 8.30am, with a briefing at 9.15am.
The main track is about 6.5km and add-ons for advanced riders give it an extra kilometre.
There is also a novice trail ride for younger, inexperienced riders of about 2.5km, while a kiddies' track in the lumpy paddock is about 1km.
There is also a hill climb for experienced riders.
"We're hoping for 300 riders if it's a nice day," Mrs Franklyn said. "It will be a good ride. We hope for a safe, fun-filled family day out."
The Lake Rerewhakaaitu Playcentre is also raising funds by selling sausages and burgers.
The ride is at 1274 Ash Pit Rd, Onuku. Adults are $25, 16 and under are $10, and families $60.
