Get reader to grab your bike, scooter, roller skates, skateboard or walking shoes for the Rotorua Green Corridor Celebration Parade.

Led by mayor Steve Chadwick and the ladies from 'Frocks on Bikes', the parade is an opportunity for anyone on wheels or foot to explore the corridor, win great spot
prizes and celebrate in an evening of fun and entertainment.

The parade takes place on October 8 with participants meeting at the Arts Village at 4.30pm, ready for a 5pm start.

It will trace the Green Corridor route down Hinemoa St, across Fenton St to Tutanekai St, through the Night Market, down Haupapa St and all the way to Kuirau Park.

The Hits will be on board for the entire parade, hosting the celebration and pumping music, while getting everyone involved in entertainment, including interactive photos and prize draws, as well as handing out lollies and balloons.

Mrs Chadwick said the evening would be a great community event where people could make the most of the extra hour of daylight while exploring the beauty of Rotorua's inner city.

"We've teamed up with shops along the corridor to offer some excellent prizes to those taking part and, combined with 'Frocks on Bikes' and the Rotorua Night Market, it's sure to be a fun-filled celebration for everyone."

Guests from Australia will also join in on the parade, including Global Compact Cities Programme deputy director, Elizabeth Ryan, and programme researcher, Brendan Barrett.

Rotorua is New Zealand's only United Nations Global Compact City - part of a worldwide programme to progress social equity, justice, environmental sustainability and good governance in the urban environment, and the Green Corridor helps support some of its guiding principles.

Rotorua Lakes Council's Inner City Revitalisation Portfolio lead Karen Hunt said the Green Corridor was a key part of the Rotorua 2030 inner city revitalisation strategy, aimed at developing a vibrant city heart that attracts people and activity with outstanding places to play.

"The Green Corridor Celebration Parade is an awesome opportunity to showcase just what the corridor is designed to do and why it will be an asset for the city in years to come.

"It's not just a thoroughfare, but has been designed as a special way for people to experience and explore their way through the city, showcasing all the beauty Rotorua's inner city has to offer."
