Contractors working on the major road rebuild of SH30A Amohau Street in Rotorua will this week finish repairs to the eastbound lanes.

Work is also expected to move across to the westbound lanes.

From tomorrow, the westbound lanes between Te Ngae St intersection and just before the right turn bay into Pak’nSave will be closed overnight from 8pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday (open Friday and Saturday nights).

“Crews will be setting up and packing down an hour either side of these closure times. Vehicles will still be able to travel through, however, there may be delays,” NZ Transport Agency said.

“During the day, the road will remain open with a temporary speed limit. Drivers should expect an uneven surface with ramps at each end of the worksite.”

NZTA said the road has been patched for years and now needs a full asphalt rebuild to prevent failures next winter.

The roading agency said the road also sits in an active geothermal zone, which makes the job more complex.

NZTA encouraged motorists to allow extra time and plan ahead.
