Gavin Hayes won last years Rotorua Daily Post person of the year.

Everyone knows someone who is an absolute gem who deserves to be recognised.

They are the sort of people who blow you away with what they achieve - some even make you take a look at yourself and question if you're doing enough to make the world a better place.

They might possess qualities such as kindness or simply just brilliance. Or they could have done something to make Rotorua that extra special city.

Now's the time to tell us about those people.

We are calling for nominations from the public for the Rotorua Daily Post Person of the Year.

Throughout each month we have chosen someone we believe deserved recognition and have awarded them the title of Person of the Month. Each of those people will go forward for nomination for the Rotorua Daily Post Person of the Year.

So far the nominations include: Turike Tairea, Owen Roberts, Sarah Craig, Christine Findon, Gabby Molloy, Rolly Rolston, Tiny Deane, Jo Orr and Dean Oswald.

But Rotorua is full of truly remarkable people, or people who epitomise what Rotorua stands for.

Last year's winner was elderly victim Gavin Hayes. He hit the news after being targeted by teens who stole money and food from his Glenholme flat and twice stole his car. The community response snowballed and offers for help flooded in.

He was given the title of Person of the Year because of what his story told us about Rotorua.

If you know of someone who should be the Rotorua Daily Post Person of the Year, let us know. See here for details on how to nominate.

We would love to see lots of names of deserving folk.
