A Rotorua organisation is giving an up and coming local business person the chance to sit on its board of directors as an observer.
Rotorua Economic Development Ltd, which trades as Destination Rotorua, would allow a "promising young business person" first-hand exposure to its board, its decision making and operations,
as well as training and mentorship with the hope of carrying the important skills through to their own business.
Rotorua Economic Development Ltd chairman Peter Stubbs said the initiative had been designed to provide an opportunity for the observer to witness the value that a board can add to an organisation.
"This board observer will have a seat at the table where they will learn about the issues confronting the organisation, the fundamental principles of the work and functions of boards, financial processes, governance priorities and the true function of a board and its board members," he said.
The preferred candidate would own a business in one of Rotorua's priority areas for investment attraction including tourism and wellness, forestry and wood processing, geothermal power generation, sustainable land use and investments that complement the Te Arawa asset base and future aspirations.
