One person has died after a truck crash in Ōpōtiki this morning.

Police said emergency services received reports of a single-vehicle crash on Otara Rd around 7.50am.

The driver of the truck died at the scene and there were no other occupants.

The Serious Crash Unit is carrying out a scene examination.

Otara Rd remains closed and motorists were asked to avoid the area.

Fire and Emergency NZ and St John also went to the scene.
