The cartoon will also get the big screen treatment with a twist, with a live-action film featuring CGI characters slated for release in November 2020.
It first aired on Nickelodeon in 1991, lasting nine seasons and three movies.
Its reboot follows similar announcements for Blue's Clues, Invader Zim and Rocko's Modern Life.
I guess it's all good in theory, right? Tommy, Chuckie, Lil and Phil will go on more crazy adventures, with Angelica in tow, trying to mess it all up. The next generation will get a taste of a beloved cartoon while people my age will watch it with the sweet pangs of nostalgia.
But that's all in theory. In reality, I fear it will be a half-baked reinvention of old episodes with little substance or originality.
When I try to think of a reboot or remake I genuinely liked, I fail to come up with anything. But I suppose enough people are willing to give reboots a try - otherwise, the big-wigs wouldn't be pitching them all the time.
Maybe I'm too desperate to hold on to my childhood because all I keep thinking is "what will be next?" Harry Potter? Man, I'm definitely not ready for that.
