One person has been taken to hospital with moderate injuries after a car and empty tour bus collided in Rotorua.

Police were called to the scene at 12.55pm after the vehicles collided on Ngongotahā Rd, between Henderson Rd and Fairy Springs Rd.

Fire and ambulance crews were also called to attend.

The driver of the car suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Rotorua Hospital.

The driver of the tour bus was not injured.

A police media spokeswoman said the northbound lane was blocked and traffic was backed up from the scene to Kawaha Point.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area until the scene has been cleared.
