Police and emergency services are at the scene of a fatal crash on McKee Rd, 12kms south of Kawerau.

The head-on crash between a logging truck and a five-ton truck and trailer was reported at 3.52a.m.

The logging truck driver was reported as being uninjured but one of two occupants of the second truck was killed.

The crash has completely closed the road and contractors are arranging diversions.

The scene is likely to take some hours to clear and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.
