Ohakune, central North Island, shaken by magnitude 4.4 earthquake

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake has struck 35km west of Ohakune.

Geonet is classing the 23km deep quake as "light" and so far more than 1000 people have reported feeling shaking.

Most reports said the shaking felt was weak or light, but three people reported feeling a strong rattle.

The quake struck shortly before 1pm on Tuesday afternoon.
