Police are on the hunt for the occupants of a vehicle that fled from police then crashed.

About 7.30pm yesterday officers were doing a routine traffic stop on River Rd, Kawerau, when a vehicle fled from the scene, a police spokeswoman said.

The vehicle did not stop after being signalled by police and a pursuit was initiated, she said.

Spikes were deployed and the vehicle crashed into a paddock on East Bank Rd, she said.

There were no injuries and the occupants fled on foot.
