Motorists are reminded to plan ahead this long weekend with the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions set to host a large number of planned public events.

New Zealand Transport Agency Bay of Plenty systems manager Rob Campbell said there would be a lot of people travelling on the roads this weekend, whether it be to the beach to make the most of the long weekend, or to the many events taking place.

"With events on such as the two international one day cricket matches in Tauranga, the Hamilton Sevens, and the Cambridge Town Cup Rowing Regatta we are expecting the roads to be busy all weekend, and not just at traditional peak travelling times.

"We recommend people take note of these events when planning their trips, and to expect more people on both local roads and our state highways."

Campbell said those travelling should allow plenty of time for their journeys, drive to the conditions and plan ahead.

Taupō Summer Concert at the Taupō Amphitheatre on Saturday, January 26
