Striker Mitchell Miller's attention is now turned on being the WaiBOP Premiership's leading goal scorer after he scored a magnificent nine goals for his club yesterday.

Ngongotaha AFC ran out 19-0 winners against Tauranga City United at Stembridge Road with Ngonogtaha's attacking prowess proving overwhelming for their opponents.

Miller's triple hat-trick was joined by five goals from Josh O'Sullivan, two from Harlem Simiona and a goal a piece for Luke Barker, Dave Haua and Jake Davis.

And Miller has now scored 17 goals this season - six more than previous leading goal scorer Rotorua United striker Dayne Willemsen.

"I couldn't actually remember how many goals I had scored after the game," joked Miller.

"Of course I'm very pleased to get my name on the goal sheet but the game wasn't about me, every goal was a team goal and I'm just happy about the result.

"We needed to stamp our place in this league and our performance has proved that. It was a fantastic performance and we played the ball around well. Hopefully we'll continue to be as clinical in front of goal in the next games."

The inform front man picked his first strike after 2 minutes as the best out of his nine goals and was pleased his team continued to press even after being 9-0 up at half-time.

"It was important to get a great start in the game so that's why my most important strike was my first," Miller said.

"From there we were able to really push on and it was relentless. We didn't just want to win the game by a couple of games and we could have actually scored more than 19."

Ngongotaha coach Shane Davis praised the talented forwards' performance but picked out captain Haua's 20-yard right footed strike as the goal of the day.

"It's great to see Mitchell finding the net and he had a great game, but it was all about the team today," he said.

"I would say Alan Ferguson was the best player for us because his hard work in midfield and his distribution of the ball was fantastic.

"Also captain Dave had the best goal of the match in my mind, as it was a terrific goal outside the 18-yard box. The keeper had no chance.

"It may seem like it was a complete walk over looking at the result but Tauranga put up a good game and didn't give in."

Ngongotaha remain unbeaten in the WaiBOP Premiership and top the table on 21 points after seven games.

And Miller is hoping they can win the league this year and gain promotion after falling just short last season, finishing in second place.

"I wouldn't want what happened last year to repeat itself," said Miller.

"It was a horrible feeling. But this year we have such a strong group of players and we have learnt from past experiences.

"Now we need to take each game as it comes and hold our nerve."
