"We actually played really well, we pressured them and closed them down really quickly.
"The boys played with a lot more heart, they wanted to win and were unlucky not to achieve that.
"We were quite happy, especially bouncing back from a hiding the week before [against Waiheke United]," Davis said.
He said Ngongotaha dominated the first half and could have been up by three or four if they had taken more chances.
"Their first goal, the guy got the ball just outside the box and beat four or five players before slotting it past the keeper, it was a good goal.
"Their second came off a free-kick, we didn't quite place the wall correctly."
Ngongotaha's first goal came from a goalmouth scramble and the second was scored from inside the box by Alexis Pinto, who was playing his last game for the club.
Davis said the standout players for his side were centreback Simon Te Kiri and central midfielder George Watson.
"Simon was man-of-the-match, his defensive effort was brilliant.
"George just battled for the whole game, he was really good. It was his third game for us, he has settled in well."
