As the Te Matatini National Kapa Haka competition draws closer, we take a look at who is representing Te Arawa with in depth profiles on each of the six teams.
Te Ingoa/Name:
Tuhourangi Ngati Wahiao (TNW)
Kaiwhakahaere/Tutors:
Te Whanau
Manukura Tane/Male Leader:
Koro Tini.
Manukura Wahine/Female Leader:
Laurell Tamati.
Te Wahanga/Pool:
Te Kei, Pool C, Saturday 7th March.

"Ka matemate au mo taku whanau, ka matemate au mo taku hapu, ka matemate au mo taku iwi."

Koia te whakatauaki a Kepa Ehau, he kaka waha nui no Te Arawa nona i takatu ai i te mata o te whenua. He whakatauaki e tika ana mo te kapa haka o Tuhourangi Ngati Wahiao i a ratou e anga atu ana ki Te Matatini hei te wiki e tu mai nei.

Hei ta John Turi, mangai o te kapa, he mahi i oti na runga i te rourou a tena, a tena ano.

"Me kapo i tera o nga whakatauki, 'Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi engari taku toa he toa taki tini'. Ko wetahi hai whakaako i tenei, ko wetahi hai whakaako i tena. A, he ropu ano hoki hai whakaemi putea me era mahi nui ano hoki."

Me te whakaae a Turi, koia i eke ai te kapa, "nga whakataetae e rua i waimarie matau ka riro mai he turanga i nga wahanga katoa.

Ko te matua he whakamahara i a Te Rangi-i-rere-waho, ara i a Maureen Waaka (nee Kingi), "tera o o tatau kuru pounamu, whaea , kuia, karangaranga maha kua ngaro i a tatau.

I tenei tau kai te whakanui hoki ai i nga taonga tuku iho a Ngai Tuhourangi Ngati Wahiao me nga tatai hono i waenga i a matau me te iwi kainga a Ngai Tahu.

"Ko etahi ano i hapai i Te kapa o Te Rauaroha hai kapa tautoko i a matau otira i a Te Arawa whanui hoki. Koina tetahi ahuatanga motuhake o TNW, otira nga kapa-a-iwi, a hapu nei, ehara i te karapu mahi hakahaka noa iho engari he mahi tuku iho mai i tera reanga ki tenei."
