This week's Newsmaker Veena Kameta runs Streets of Origin, a community initiative which promotes community based ideas, including Neighbours Day celebrations at Aorangi Reserve today.
How did you get into your career?
For the last decade I have been an administrator for BOP District Rugby League where we do a lot
of socialising, networking, running competitions, planning, and draws. Two years ago I received an email for a sports co-ordinator to deliver small workshops at the Rotorua Youth Centre, from there I learnt more and more about youth, school events, funding and bigger networking with large organisations.
A lot of time was spent on volunteering.
What do you love about your job?
Being yourself and around peers who support you.
What have been your biggest achievements?
The Vanuatu appeal was big, it's not everyday you just rock up and say I'm going to support an appeal. But mostly that's how I do a lot of my work, it just happens and away I go and get everyone I know involved.
What do you love about Rotorua?
Being able to call Rotorua home, no motorways, and beach or lakes on our back door.
