NZ First list MP Fletcher Tabuteau says he's already annoyed Beehive security for forgetting his building access password.

NZ First list MP Fletcher Tabuteau says he's already annoyed Beehive security for forgetting his building access password.

Rotorua's newest MP says he may have made his first enemy in Parliament - but it's not another politician.

New Zealand First list MP Fletcher Tabuteau said he had already annoyed security at the Beehive in Wellington, for forgetting his password to get into the building.

But at least he knows where the toilets are after his first few days in the capital city. "Yes, I have managed to find the toilets but I don't have an office yet, they are still trying to find us all some space to settle into."

The Rotorua educator and economist got into Parliament on the party's list after Saturday's election saw New Zealand First pick up 8.9 per cent of the party vote nationwide.

Mr Tabuteau said his party met on Monday to discuss plans for the next three years.

"We had a really positive first caucus meeting on Monday and that was great.

"We discussed the good result at the election and are now focused on the task at hand, which is keeping the Government honest."

Parliament will be sworn in on October 20.

"It's just one big learning curve for the new kid on the block.

"About 30 new MPs are all in and out of workshops this week, covering a wide range of things a new MP needs to know.

"Things like learning how to manage your resources, finances, staff - it's just like running a small business.

"It has been a bit overwhelming, it's all pretty huge at the moment."

Mr Tabuteau said he was getting plenty of support from more experienced MPs and had got to meet many of the new MPs from all parties.

"We had a small social gathering after a training session, which was a good opportunity to mingle and talk to the opposition," he said.
