With more than 30 years of service Jennifer Anne McKinlay Vanstone is valued member of Te Puke community.

She has been recognised with a Queen's Service Medal for services to the community as part of this year's New Year's Honours.

Mrs Vanstone has been the Te Puke Daffodil Day area co-ordinator since the fundraiser began in the Bay of Plenty in 1991.

She laughs that she was caught at a "weak moment" when a doctor's wife approached her to take on the role over two decades ago.

The role sees her organise volunteers, co-ordinate with the Cancer Society and contact local businesses for support.

Mrs Vanstone also is a committee member of the Te Puke Presbyterian Church, the Te Puke Plunket and volunteers at the Junior Learning Programme at the Te Puke Primary School where she has helped hundreds of young people to read.

Mrs Vanstone is a long-serving member of the KiwiCoast Lions Club and the women's service group Zonta, which advocates the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy in local communities.

A respected elder of her church, she promotes Red Cross fundraising.
