It has been all go recently for the local Pita Pit shop, winning an award and having a new shop on the way.

Pita Pit Rotorua franchisee Phil Haines says they will have a new store opening next to Kmart which will be much bigger than the current store.

The new store will have seating for about 30 people and will have extra menu items requested by customers, he says.

It is scheduled to open on December 1 and will probably be one of the first to open in the new Trade Central development.

"I'm excited about it. It's a big investment but I think it's going to service the other side of Rotorua."

Phil says Pita Pit Rotorua also do school lunches, doing about 7000 this year at nine primary schools and two intermediates.

"We are trying to encourage kids to eat a healthier lunch."

He says they are looking to add more schools to their lunch-time orders once they get the new store open.

"We think we are giving children a great healthy lunch that is affordable."

Pita Pit Rotorua also won the Franchisee of the Year Award last week out of 125 Pita Pit franchises in New Zealand.

Phil says he felt a sense of satisfacton and relief when they received the award.

"We set our goal and we got it."

Phil says good customer service is made up of friendliness, remembering people's names, making sure they always do the right thing and creating a nice atmosphere for people.

"We want them to walk out happier than when they walked in."

He says they also like to talk to children who come in and treat them like adults.
