A new visitor information hub in Rotorua's i-SITE has been officially opened today.
The new Department of Conservation hub has been set up to help Rotorua visitors enjoy the outdoors in a safe and respectful way, a Destination Rotorua press release said.
The new area, dedicated to public spaces managedby DOC provides information on short local walks as well as New Zealand's Great Walks, the release said.
DOC supervisor Caraline Abbott said the new space had been designed as a useful resource for both locals and visitors.
"We've looked at the visitor inquiries received over the past five years and focused our new design to make sure we hit the nail on the head in terms of providing the right information about how to get off the beaten track and enjoy Rotorua and the rest of New Zealand safely and in an environmentally responsible way."
Destination Rotorua's executive manager Visitor Services, Graham Brownrigg said DOC's presence in the i-SITE provided real value for people who sought ways to enjoy the beauty of the district's natural attractions.
"DOC and i-SITE visitor services have been co-located for more than five years and it's a great way of recognising the importance of the natural environment to Rotorua's appeal. DOC and Destination Rotorua work together to promote responsible tourism in support of New Zealand's Tiaki Promise and this new space is a visible sign of our shared commitment."
