An $8.8 million building consent for Motion Entertainment has helped push the value of consents issued in Rotorua last month to just over $12 million.

It was issued by the Rotorua Lakes Council to the W D Holmes 2000 Trust for its new retail and entertainment centre at Lynmore Junction and made up the majority of the $9 million worth of commercial consents.

Holmes Group managing director Ryan Holmes said the $8.8 million consent was for the construction of Motion Entertainment and Lynmore Junction's common areas and carparking.

He said work on Motion Entertainment was going well with geotechnic works for the building complete, and the tilt slabs erected for Strikezone Ten Pin Bowling.

Mr Holmes said drainage and other works were starting this week with the footings and floor to be completed in the next two weeks on the northern side of the site which will house Megazone Laser Tag and Chipmunks Playland & Cafe.

"There are currently around 30 workers on site from 10 different contractors with local company Goodrick Contracting Ltd being the largest Rotorua contract awarded to date for site civil [works]."

The construction of the Iles Road/Te Ngae Road intersection, to be controlled by traffic lights, was likely to start in July and would be completed prior to the opening of Motion Entertainment, he said.

April building consents:
Commercial consents issued: 7 (15 in April 2015)
Commercial consents total value: $9 million ($11.7 million in April 2015)
Residential consents issued: 118 (87 in April 2015)
Residential consents total value: $3.2 million ($3.8 million in April 2015)
